Théo Vanasse

Théo Vanasse

Born Montréal, 1991. Lives Bedford-Stuyvesant. Mother a pianist, father an architect. He learned to wait before he learned to shoot.

Concordia, 2009 to 2013, under Donigan Cumming. New York after, one year at the Annie Leibovitz studio carrying lights. Paris in 2016, six months on a Magnum bursary with Susan Meiselas. That phase set the temperature.

Fashion took him from 2017 to 2020: Margiela, Acne, AnOther, three CR covers. He left it in a single night in February 2020 after a five-day Italian Vogue shoot. He has not gone back.

Eleven months in São Paulo, nine in Mexico City. Sertão Faces ran in Aperture in 2021. Casting work began in 2023 — Tiba Vision, Models 1, Diesel, Lemaire. Now full-time scout for REVERCE, rotating through eight cities, three to four days each.

He looks for reference depth, not beauty. Posture before face. Friction in the line. He distrusts cattle-calls and beauty-editorial. He keeps one Moleskine per city, marine blue, one face per page.

„What I deliver is real. Whether I am, is another question."
